it seems that pride and prejudice is becoming even more and more of a problem these days. mrs ganesan told us of how being an indian in this society now is actually being an object of humiliation, even back during when she was a student. now, we chinese are even being prejudiced in the US being called '******', the blacks being called '******' and indians being called '*******'. this just highlights how much of a problem prejudice is even now.
i'm sure that i'm not the only person with friends from other ethnic groups, and we do poke fun at each other just to have some fun sometimes. however, there is a thin line between having fun and being racist and in this case, it is VERY easy to cross the line. like for example, i've seen groups of people who are cracking jokes with one another one moment and then fighting all of a sudden just because one person said something that is derogatory to another person.
all of these problems seem to arise from pride and prejudice. what really irks me is that people judge others just by skin colour. for example, i have friends who look at dark skinned people and think, oh this guy must be a cleaner by profession. this really bugs me cos not all dark people are cleaners, some of them are so successful that we would never even be able to earn as much money as they would in a year. take people like michael jordan, tiger woods and for someone closer to asia, vijay singh. these people earn millions a year at least. 'nuff said.
my say? do it like what soccer is doing now- stomp out racism. that's the only solution if u ask me.
